We had a great Thanksgiving at Amy and Jeb's house (Nate's sister). It was nice to be able to spend the holiday with family when most of our family lives so far away. On Wednesday, I picked Nate up from school and headed on a bunch of toll roads (I hate toll roads), and winding highways, and got to their house about 5 hours later. Pennsylvania is pretty with all of the hills, but it makes for crazy little highways. That evening we just chatted. The next morning was Thanksgiving and we slept in, watched the parade, and chatted until our reservations for our Thanksgiving meal at Mrs. Gibble's Restaurant. This was my first time eating out on Thanksgiving, but I must say it was quite nice. The food was really good! They had delicious moist turkey and ham with all the trimmings (except rolls, I was really missing the rolls). But they also had corn fritters which were divine! And pumpkin pie to finish it off. Of course, I also missed how many choices of pie we always had at Thanksgiving, but everything was delicious! And no preparation or cleanup! We enjoyed it and are grateful to Amy and Jeb for taking us. That night we played a fun DVD game called password, couple against couple. Good times.
The next day we went to Gettysburg! I've never been there before, so it was pretty cool. We went to a museum there. First we watched this film on the Civil War then we went up to the Cyclorama which is a huge circular painting so it's like we're in the middle of the war and the painting is all around us and they did a presentation with narration and lighting to make the painting come alive. It was really cool. Probably my favorite part. Then we went through the museum where they had many artifacts from the war and it was quite extensive! I was impressed. My nephew, Jacob, was in heaven because he absolutely LOVES history and especially the Civil War. Nate added a shot glass to his collection and we learned a lot and enjoyed our time. Thanks to Amy and Jeb for that too!

Saturday was our day to drive back, but before we left, we had to play a game of foosball. It was Jeb and my nephew Brent against Nate and I. We were very well matched, I must say. We each won one game, then we had the 3rd tie breaker where they barely beat us! Nate and I discovered that I am much better on offense and he on defense. But we had tons of fun and will certainly be doing a rematch! After that, we drove back home, but this time went a slightly different way since we were heading to Canton, and didn't have as many toll roads, which was fabulous. We were also able to go through Pittsburgh and a little piece of West Virginia. All in all, it was a great weekend and a much needed break for Nate right before finals start!
So glad you were able to be with family on Thanksgiving. Corn fritters sound good!
ReplyDeleteDon't tell mom about Nate's shot glass collection! ;)
I LOVE Gettysburg! I've been many times and I never get tired of it. So glad that you guys could spend Thanksgiving with Amy and Jeb since they are usually alone. It's great that everyone had someone to celebrate with this year.
ReplyDeleteLove Gettysburg, lots of history back that way. Glad you had a good time. I think this is the first year that everyone in the family had someone else in the family to celebrate with this year!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that he had family so close. That's so nice you were able to spend Thanksgiving with family.
ReplyDeleteNext time you come visit us, we challenge you to a Foosball duel.
