Potty Training!

During Christmas break, I decided to potty train Logan. I was already putting him on the toilet before bath and whenever he wanted to. And he already had had success peeing in the potty. I think that was seriously one of the best parent moments. I was so proud of him when he had his first success of peeing in the potty, I got teary! But anyway, I decided this was a good time. And we certainly wanted to do it before the baby was born and before I got too pregnant. Second trimester was ideal.

We went shopping and Logan picked out his underwear, treats, and drinks. I had already bought a potty chart and stickers. I also bought a few dollar toys to give him when he went the whole day without an accident.

The method I used doesn't have you put the child on the potty every 15 minutes or whatever. But you just play with your child and watch them very closely and tell them often "Tell me when you need to go potty." Once they start peeing or pooping, or when they tell you they need to go, then you rush them to the potty so they can at least finish going there. That way, they don't hate the potty by being forced to stay there. I think this technique is exactly what Logan needed. He is a bit stubborn about certain things and often things have to be his idea, and going potty is one of those things. It's still like that. It has to be his idea about when to go potty. He has amazing bladder control, and he did really well on the first and second day. Only a couple of accidents. The 3rd day was rough. He was having accidents every time! And this method says how to potty train in three days! So I was discouraged on that 3rd day. But I talked to Missy who gave me this method, and she talked about how Sadie was the only one who was potty trained in three days. So I kept working at it, and by the next week, he was doing really well and was able to start earning the dollar toys. I was certainly proud of him! We were still putting pull ups on him at night, but he was often waking up dry at night! He was a rock star! Within a month, Grandma and Grandpa Summers took him to Toys r' Us so he could pick out a potty present for being all potty trained. He had a tough time deciding (he just likes everything), but he finally picked a digger truck that changes into a mammoth and can move on his own.

Here he is with just a shirt and his Mickey Mouse underwear. Such a cutie!
