Chicago Part III! And Final Part!

I finally made it to day two! After day one, we were absolutely exhausted and sore from running around! Every part of our legs that we use for walking was sore! So we slept in until about 9ish and didn't leave to catch the Metra until 11ish. This was our day to do "free" things, so there wasn't as much to do anyway. We brought our leftover pizza with us and had a little picnic in Millennium Park. It was a little colder on this day, mostly because of the wind. When you could feel the sun shine on your back, it wasn't so bad. And it certainly wasn't peaceful what with a political march of some sort going on and because of all the people, but it was still fun! We especially had fun with the Cloud Gate!

The Cloud Gate - a sculpture that to me, looks like a bike helmet. But notice how you can see the reflection of the skyline. I don't know if you've noticed or not, the pink backpack in some of these pictures. It is mine, but we had our food, water, important stuff in it and when I was too tired, I had Nate carry it.

Our reflections in the Cloud Gate. A little boy was under with us, and he was so cute. He was like, "I'm giving five to my best friend!" as he "gave 5" to his own reflection!

We also went to see the Pavilion where they hold concerts. The way it is designed I guess provides really good acoustics.

After the park, we went to Wrigley Field where the Chicago Cubs play. Apparently it's one of the oldest baseball parks in the nation and it wasn't until quite recently that they finally put in lights so they could play games later. And it has those ivy covered walls, but of course we weren't able to go inside so we didn't see those walls. Nate really enjoyed this part of our trip!

Look at how excited he is!

I was there too!

I thought it was really funny that the apartments nearby have stadium seating on their roofs! If you want cheaper seats...

After this, we decided to just go home. We were going to go to the Hancock Observatory (another tall building with a view) because someone had told us we could get in free. But the more we read about it, we didn't think it was free. So we thought about going to another park, Lincoln Park, but it was pretty cold and we were so tired and sore so we decided that was enough. We had lots of fun and we'll hopefully go back some other time, in the summer!

When we got to the hotel, the BYU vs. Gonzaga was about to start, so we quickly went out to Popeyes, which was by our hotel, to grab something to eat, then came back to watch the game. We were in good spirits after BYU won! And went to bed happily.

The next day was Sunday and we had found the address of the nearest church before we left, so we went to sacrament meeting in the morning, then came back to checkout and pack up. Then we were on way home where we successfully avoided all toll roads! We were quite proud of ourselves for relying on the atlas instead of the GPS:) Anyway, we had tons of fun and hope to go back!

  1. It looks like you had a fun get-away in Chicago. Rob will be going there in a month for an ortho meeting. I just told him that he needs to bring me home some deep dish pizza. That seriously looked so good!

  2. Fun! I've seen that big ole steel jelly bean and want to go see it. It would make for some great pics!
