The Gee's and the Amish

Since I have started working full time, it is much more difficult to keep up with the blog. So this blog happened the weekend after we went to the Indians game, which was probably over a month ago.

My sister-in-law Debbie and her family came to Cleveland spur-of-the-moment because it seemed like Karl's (my brother-in-law) father was going to pass away soon. He ended up being ok. But they were nice enough to let us come up to see them in Cleveland during this time. They took  us out to eat at Danny Boys (delicious and unique pizza. We had the Clevelander, which was upside down pizza. The crust was still on the bottom, but then came the toppings and sauce on top) and then to eat ice cream at Malley's (the thickest ice cream and syrups I have ever tasted)! Inside Malley's, there was a merry-go-round where there were tables, so you slowly went around as you ate! However, the tables were all taken when we got there, so we sat at a table by it. After that, we went to a park with the kids and threw a Frisbee and played a bit. It was fun and we really enjoyed seeing some family! I didn't take very many pictures, I just didn't think about it, but these are the ones I did take...

The next day we decided we would finally make our way to Amish Country, which is only about 40 minutes away to the west of us. I have to say my favorite part was seeing them driving their horse and buggies on the side of the road. I did notice though that they had cars parked in the driveways of their houses, but I'm sure they only used them if they needed to travel long distances. Otherwise, they took their buggies or rode bikes.  I was also struck by how industrial they are. They make so many things that are very beautiful! I'm sure they don't waste their time on computers with Facebook, or watching TV. If we didn't do those things (or blog for that matter:) we could get so much more done! But oh well. I also like staying connected to friends and family, so I'm going to continue to waste time on Facebook and blogs!

Anyway, we had fun going to the different shops and wishing we had money to actually buy stuff. We did end up buying a fly swatter, which we needed, and root beer ice cream syrup and poppy seeds. You can buy spices for a lot cheaper there and poppy seeds were something I haven't bought yet. And the root bear syrup just sounded so interesting! And it was really good! It was almost like having a root beer float, but not wet. So that was a really fun weekend! The last one before I started working my 8 - 5 job, which I am actually really liking! Who would've thought that I would actually like selling!

  4. Time to make poppy seed muffins. Yum. Sounds like you had fun! I'll bet that the Amish have other ways of wasting time, even if they aren't blogging or on FB. :)
