10 Months Old!

I can't believe how fast my baby is growing. He's getting close to 1! And oh my goodness, he just keeps getting cuter, if that's even possible. Everywhere we go, people (especially older women) ooh and ahh about his blue eyes. And of course, he loves the attention. Logan had his doctor's appointment on his 10 month birthday (April 15th). And since we did the flu shot at his last appointment, we couldn't do the Prevnar so he had to get that shot this time. Great present, I know. But he barely cried and didn't act any different all day. Anyway, the stats:

Weight: 20 pounds - 50th percentile
Height: 28 inches - 15th percentile
Head: 18 inches - 50th percentile

Logan is still short. And he has the short Summers' legs. He wears 9-12 month clothing, but the 6-9 month pants still fit better than the 12 month pants.

Great picture to show off those cute, short legs. These are supposed to be shorts!
I asked the doctor about how much Logan should eat during a meal (because it seems like he could just eat all day) and he first said that whatever I am doing to gauge seems to be right. And then he said that normally, you should eat about the size of your fist. Well, Logan eats at least both of his fists (in a manner of speaking). So I'm going with what he said first. And maybe it's because we aren't big snackers in this house. I grew up eating 3 meals a day and some days having a snack, but it wasn't an everyday thing. I feed Logan 3 meals plus one snack between lunch and dinner. So I'm thinking that maybe because of that, he eats more than is recommended at mealtimes. Of course, he gets a bottle before each of his naps so I suppose that could be considered a snack. But he is such a meat eater! Every kind of meat I have given him, he just devours. Is this a boy thing, or a Logan thing?
Enjoying Baby Einstein's with Mommy. I always clip his fingernails while he watches. Otherwise, it would be impossible because he wouldn't hold still!
The disaster zone again. Whatever makes him happy and won't hurt him!

Logan has become quite the cruiser. He walks around the furniture (and anything else about his size) easily and will even pull himself up on the sliding door and walk across that. But the funnest thing that has come about is his play. And he initiated it in the first place! He will start to crawl away and then look back at me as if he's asking me to chase him. So I will start crawling after him saying "I'm gonna get you!" and he laughs and tries to crawl as fast as he can. But if it takes me too long to catch him, he will stop and sit so I can get him. It's so cute! I need to get video of it. The only problem is that he always wants to play this game when I am changing his clothes or diaper. If I forget to shut the door, then he is gone! But if I don't follow him, he will come back and peek through the door. Once I look, he takes off again. It's so cute, but it is draining. I try to stay positive about it because I know he just wants to play. It is so hard to change his diaper now too. As soon as you lay him down, he rolls over and is trying to get away. Sometimes he will stay a little better if I can find an interesting enough "toy" (as in, something that really isn't a toy). I always have to take a breather after the battle.
Enjoying General Conference, up close and center. He would often try to grab the BYU icon in the right bottom corner.
Speaking of battles, Logan is quite violent. He will bite (especially knees), pull hair, pull parts on faces, scratch and all in the name of fun. I tell him "no" very firmly and get him or the hair away from the situation, but he just laughs and thinks it's the funniest thing. Honestly, I'm not quite sure what to do about it because it seems to be getting worse even though we always let him know that it's not ok. I mean, I'm honestly a little scared if I'm ever in the position that I'm "smaller" than him. Like when I'm on the floor or slouched on the couch and my face is lower than his because I'll get mauled! So if anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears!

Logan has also learned how to push his walker toy around while walking! It's so cute. His little legs trying to keep up with the toy. You can tell that he feels like a big boy when he does it. It's unfortunate that we don't have a lot of space for him to really go to town on it. If he could only go straight, then there is a pretty good runway. But he gets stuck against walls and corners so we have to be there to help him. And when he gets to the end of the space, he needs help to turn around so he can go back.

Logan likes to "help" with the laundry now. Needless to say, folding is very difficult.

Logan absolutely loves animals. Now that the weather is getting warmer, we see them more often. We have kind of a woodsy area behind our house so we get a lot of squirrels and birds. Sometimes we even see deer. Both of our neighbors have dogs and there are also a log of cats that roam around. We "share" our backyard since we live in a very narrow Townhouse. But I will often catch Logan just looking outside captivated by some animal. Sometimes the dogs come right up to the window and he gets so excited about that! I try to take him on walks as often as we can so he can see more.

Logan is really into talking to his Grandmas and Grandpas on the phone. We talk to our parents on Sundays, and he always likes to be involved! He's certainly not shy either!

Logan's first taste of chocolate
I had bought a bunch of Sixlets to give to the Primary kids that went along with an activity I was doing to teach a song. While I was getting ready for church (Nate was already at church for a meeting), I just let Logan roam around our room and play with whatever. Well while I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth (I had the door closed because I don't like him getting into the toilet and garbage in the bathroom), he found the Sixlets, grabbed one for each hand and went to town. He was able to open the packaging and when I came out, there was chocolate on his teeth and a little on his clothes. Since he'd already had that much and was obviously enjoying it, I decided to just let him finish them off but I put a washcloth on him so he wouldn't get his church clothes any messier. I was trying to wait until his first birthday before giving him chocolate, but he found a way!

His darling laugh!

This one's just funny. But maybe you had to be there.

  1. He sounds just like all my boys! Very active and into everything. If you think he's exhausting now, just wait...
As for his strong behaviors, I would focus on distracting him. I've heard of some parenting advice to reserve a strong NO only in times of needing to keep him safe and times when he's truly being dangerous to someone else. At this age, he is only exploring what his body and his teeth and grabbers can do. Just a sweet, please don't do that honey, but here, you can play with this toy or let's read this book. Then immediately give him something that's ok to do.

  2. All my kids have the short Summers' legs. It's definitely a strong Summers' trait. Pete has long legs so you would think one of my five would have long legs, but no, all of them wear a size smaller pants than they do a shirt. Logan and Maycee weigh almost the same! Haha! She weighs 22 lbs. Funny. I wouldn't worry over much about the biting, grabbing and pulling. But, I would continue to say "No" because that is not okay for him to continue. He will get it eventually. He is such a doll and reminds me so much of Nate when he was a baby. Nate really was the sweetest and happiest baby.
