Also in June, I believe it was the week after Logan's birthday, we moved into our house! I have to say, closing on a house is a horrible experience. The day of closing, the mortgage company were asking me to get them more documents! And then we had to post-pone closing because of the mess. They were trying to blame it on the fact that we were a bit late getting the flood insurance situated (but we had no idea that flood insurance is through the government, and we all know that things are never fast with the government). But we did get all that done a few days before and suddenly they needed documentation for other things. And when they emailed us the HUD, they had put on the wrong home insurance! So they had to get that changed. Even after closing they were asking for documentation on things! And then a month later (after we thought everything was officially done), the insurance called and said they hadn't received payment and then I got a call from the wrong insurance because they received a payment from us that they weren't expecting! So we had to get all that straightened out. It really was a mess. But even though we closed late, which means they couldn't record the mortgage until Monday (which means it wasn't technically our house until Monday), our realtor worked some magic, and paid some money, to get the owners to let us move in that weekend.
So we moved on Saturday, the 20th. Both of our parents came to help as well as Karl and Nate (brother-in-laws), and Karl's boys. I had everything colored coded and labeled, with a key at the front door, so people could put the boxes in the correct room. I didn't want the same experience that we had in Canton where everything ended up in the living room and we could hardly move around! My parents stayed a little longer and helped us put together our kitchen table and hook up the water to the fridge. And we all ate across the street at Dairy Queen.
We have some work to do on the house, painting, fixing some things, putting up blinds/curtains, and of course unpacking and decorating. I am loving having our own house, that we own, with plenty of space!
But an annoying thing about the house is the front door lock. So apparently, it's one of those that will be locked on the outside, but not on the inside. Well, I didn't know this and our garage door doesn't have a keypad yet, so Logan, Kylie, and I decided to sit on the porch for a bit to get some fresh air and watch the cars. We didn't have shoes on. Then when it was time to go back in, the door was locked! Nate wasn't going to be home for another hour or 2, but I texted him and told him to hurry. It was a really hot day. I tried the neighbors, but they were gone. So to beat some of the heat and keep Logan entertained, I carried the littles across the hot road to the shady creek area. We played there for awhile, but it really was getting hot and was getting to be about time for Kylie to eat, so I finally decided to call Nate's mom to see if she could get us so we could possibly hang out at their house. Well, by the time she came, Nate was almost here so we just sat in the air conditioned car until Nate got home. I probably should've called her earlier but I felt stupid about the whole thing. We very much appreciated the air conditioned car until Nate came home and saved us!
