Gallbladder Surgery

First of all, the weekend before the surgery, we decided to one last fun family event and went bowling at Boondocks. We had tons of fun! Logan started doing it all by himself, carrying the ball to the ramp and pushing it down. And Kylie did a good job of pushing it down the ramp.

So after another test, Nate found out that his gallbladder wasn't working so they set a date to remove it. From what we had been told by others who have had the surgery, it wasn't too major of a surgery so he just took about a week off from work.

The surgery was scheduled early in the morning so Nate's parents came to our house to take care of our kids while we went in at 6:30. We spent some time talking to a bunch of different nurses and doctors, then they wheeled him in. This was the first time I was the one waiting instead of being operated on. I brought a book to read and it went by pretty quickly. The doctor came out before Nate had woken up and told me that everything went fine and showed me pictures of the gallbladder. He said there were a couple of tiny stones in it and that there as a layer of fat surrounding it, which was a sign that it wasn't working properly. So it was good that it was removed. The surgery was laparoscopic which means they just made a few small holes in his abdomen and pulled it out of one of the small holes.  A little bit later, they grabbed me to see Nate in the recovery room. When I first got there, he was still really out of it and kept repeating himself and it was a bit funny because I have never seen him like that before! But soon, he was more like himself and we were cleared to leave. Once again, it was different being on the other end of things! I was the one taking care of him instead of him taking care of me. The first couple of days were just spent with him resting on the couch, but it wasn't too long before he was moving around and helping out a bit. I think we were both surprised though that the recovery was a little slower than we had anticipated. He was glad that he had an extra day off work because of the 24th of July. And later that week, he came home from work a couple of hours early because he wasn't feeling well. But after that, he was doing much better.
