We've been humming along as a family of 5 for almost 4 weeks now. Things are still pretty tough but we know with this baby that the difficult newborn stage doesn't last very long so we just have to get through it. The most difficult thing has been figuring out his sleeping schedule and how to get him to sleep. I'm trying to follow the sleep book that I've read a thousand times by putting him down drowsy, but awake. However, some nights he just cries and cries and cries so I can't put him down or if I do, he cries. I am worried that he is colicky. And the book says that there isn't much you can do for colicky babies except to try to get sleep whenever possible. There are some evenings that I spend rocking him (while standing of course, babies always notice when you sit) for an hour or more before he finally settles down. Once we get him to sleep, he usually only wakes up 2-3 times to eat and then is back to sleep within an hour. One day last week I even had to sleep with him on the couch for a bit so we could both get some sleep. Other than sleep, he is a good baby and we do enjoy having him as part of our family now. I'm sure he will just continue to be more a part of our family until the day comes that we can't remember what our family was like without him.
One of the kids in my class gave us this outfit. It is just darling and perfect for a Winter baby!
Tummy time with big brother makes it so much more fun!
Playing with Ethan's toes, This outfit was from Michelle Berg, my co-teacher. She was so sweet!
Not sure what this is? Maybe Logan took the picture.
Sitting in the swing. He did not like it to go fast. It had to be on it's lowest setting.
Asleep. He was terrible at scratching his face all the time so I always put some hand covers on if his outfit didn't have them built in.
Tummy time again! I love seeing their different sizes. So cute!
We had Thanksgiving November 23rd. Logan only went to school Monday and Tuesday. Nate worked those days and a half day on Wednesday. We had Thanksgiving with the Summers. All of the Utah family was here plus Grandma Hill, Shannon came down from BYU-Idaho and the Phelons were here for pie in the evening. They were in Utah this last week visiting all the national parks so they were able to be here for Thanksgiving. We had a fun day with the usual stuff: watching the Thanksgiving parade at home on TV with our little family, and food, football, and games at the Summers' house.
The next day we went to my parents' house. We weren't planning on doing that but Angie's family surprised my parents by coming up from AZ. Since they made the trip up here, we figured we needed to make the effort to go see them while they were in UT. We had leftover Thanksgiving dinner, did karaoke (which was a blast!), and played a frisbee game called slam disc. Rob and Nate were undefeated as teammates.
I don't seem to have any pictures from this. I know my sisters texted me some, but I lost that phone and had to get a new one so I don't have those pictures.
Saturday, we went to lunch with Nate's family since it was the last day the Phelons would be in town. We went to Paces in Layton then went to the Summers' house for the rest of the day. After dinner we went to Layton Park for our annual tradition of seeing the animal light display. It seems like the display just keeps getting bigger. It was a really good night to go to since the weather has been unseasonably warm. I was even planning on going with Ethan but he had a blow out and by the time we got him changed, back in his car seat, and in the car he was crying uncontrollably because it was bedtime so I decided to forgo it (and let's be honest, I was exhausted) so it was just Nate and the older kids. Logan remembered the lights from last year but for Kylie it was like a new experience and she loved it. She kept asking Nate, "what is that, Daddy?" about animals she didn't recognize. She was talking a million miles an hour like she does when she was excited. It was really fun.
Some random pictures from the month:
The kids love to with their toys in the sink, for some reason.
Mickey had to come with us on a car trip and of course, get buckled.
Logan made a fort.
Kylie has been so cute with her babies and stuffed animals. This one has one of Ethan's diapers on it!
