Pregnancy Post

I really haven't posted much about my pregnancy, so this an overview of basically the whole thing. So it might get a little long. It is mostly to help me remember the good, the bad, and the ugly of my pregnancy.

The Good:
Feeling baby move: The first time was February 5th (or at least the first time I knew for sure what it was I was feeling) at 20 weeks. Nate felt him through my belly for the first time on the 25th at 23 weeks.  Of course those got steadily stronger until for the last few weeks, his movements have been small again because he's squished in my belly.
Ultrasound: At 21 weeks and found out it's a boy and named him Logan! (We'll probably get another one next week)
Braxton Hicks: First Braxton Hicks on March 12th at 26 weeks. I didn't feel another one for a really long time after that, though.
Baby dropped: on May 7th at 34 weeks.
Quitting work: May 18th at 35 weeks.
Baby showers: Melissa Fry, the Primary president from our church who I work with quite closely as the Primary chorister, threw me a shower as well as Shauna Goode at work. (post & pictures to come)
Food: People at work offer me food and I don't feel bad about taking it. That is something I enjoy about being pregnant!
Health: I've basically been healthy throughout the whole pregnancy and haven't had any real scares.
Shopping: Going shopping and getting ready for little Logan and how nice people have been in giving us things that they don't need anymore.
How excited Nate is about becoming a father! And of course how excited I am at becoming a mother and fulfilling that role by staying home and trying to teach all those important things that we need to teach our children in order to be strong in the world today. And since both of us served missions for our church, we are excited to raise a missionary!

The Bad:
Feeling sick: for 2 months of my first trimester I always felt like I was going to throw up unless I was eating something, so I got really tired of crackers. But I never threw up.
Tired: I've been tired throughout my whole pregnancy (2nd trimester, despite what they say, wasn't much different than my first in that regard). The third trimester has definitely been the worst, though.
Sore back: I haven't been able to take Glucosomine for my arthritic back so there were some mornings I woke up in a whole lot of pain. But it has been better than I had expected it would be before I got pregnant.
Uncomfortable: It is amazing to me how hard it is on one's body to put on so much weight in such a short time. My feet and joints don't like it. And little things like bending over, putting socks on, sitting up, rolling in bed, become a major physical exertion.
Bathroom: waking up at night a few times to go to the bathroom
Bloody noses: waking up at night with a bloody nose and not being able to get it to stop for an hour or more. It seemed like the only way to get it under control was to have Nate give me a blessing. But it continually bleeds really slowly throughout the whole day. It makes me weak, tired, and the Doctor found out that I'm slightly anemic after losing all the blood. But now I take an iron supplement, which has helped with that. I went to stat care twice for this and the ER once and every time they didn't really do much for me. The good thing about the ER is that they gave me a clamp and that seems to work a lot better at getting my bloody noses to stop so I can usually get them under control in about a 1/2 hour now. We keep our apartment really humid so my nose doesn't dry out, but the problem is now it is starting to smell wet and mildewy. I'll have to do some major cleaning just before the baby comes to try to get rid of that. The good thing is that it doesn't seem to have affected the baby.
Sharp pains: I get these really bad sharp pains in the pelvic area, especially if I've been walking around a bit that day. I'm not sure if they are Braxton Hicks, or just the baby moving his head around and getting himself lower, but the only way to stop them is to lay down flat.

(the picture from above can also be used here. It's fitting for the bad and the ugly)

The Ugly:
Swelling: my hands and feet are a lot fatter than they used to be. And before bed seems to be the worst time. I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring on my ring finger for months! And I'm getting close to growing out of it on my pinky. But only 3ish weeks to go, so hopefully that won't happen.
Bloody noses: are certainly ugly
Comfort: Comfort becomes more important than what you look like and I really don't mind leaving the house in pajama pants, an oversized shirt, and very minimal (if any) makeup these days.

  1. Wow! You are getting SO close!! I will miss seeing him and having to wait. The pelvic pains you are feeling are the ligaments stretching. I remember it being REALLY painful with Brinley but less and less with the others just because they are already stretched out now! Yea for quitting work!
