I'm going to take a moment to do some journaling without any interesting pictures. And this may not be one you will want to read, especially if you get queasy!
On Thursday night, June 7th, I had another nosebleed. I was able to get it under control, but with how stuffy my nose gets after stopping a bleed, I knew I wouldn't be able to go to sleep right away so I stayed up reading. Well, after a couple of hours, I got another one. This continued throughout the night and the bleeds got progressively harder to stop. By early morning (around 6am) I had one that I could not stop and after getting a blessing from Nate, we decided I should go to the ER, hoping to get it cauterized. Well, I won't go into the gory details because it got pretty bad, but we (the doctors and me) could not get the nose to stop bleeding enough for them to be able to find the right vain to cauterize so they eventually decided they would need to pack it. My left side was bleeding worse than the right so they packed that one first. The picture below is what they stuck up my nose and then they filled it with saline solution so it would expand and stay in. Of course this really hurt sticking something so large and foreign up my nose.
And they actually had to do it twice. First the PA did it, then when they Dr. came to check on it, I guess he didn't like how it was done, so he redid it. Then the other side was still bleeding, but they didn't want both sides to have this, so instead they put a sponge in the right side and put saline on it to blow that one up.
So I with my eyes watering and nose bulging, we were finally able to go home around lunchtime. After getting home, I immediately made an appointment with an ENT to get them removed. The hospital told me I could get them out in 3 days, but when I called to make the appointment, the receptionist said it had to be in for 5 days. So from Friday until Wednesday, I stayed in the house mostly reading, watching TV, and taking pain killers. I didn't do much sleeping because if I laid down, the pressure in my head was a lot worse, so I tried to sleep sitting up. Wednesday finally rolled around and when I got to the nurse, she said I should've gotten them taken out on Monday. She seemed pretty upset that the receptionist told me the wrong thing. So I got them taken out, the bleeding on both sides had completely stopped so there was no need to cauterize, and basically I just needed to be really careful and use lots of saline until I could have my baby.
Next post: Baby!

You poor girl! That just sounds awful! Thank heavens baby is here now and hopefully you will have no more nosebleeds.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've heard that tampons are a great tool to stop a nose bleed. Gosh, so glad that is over for you!
ReplyDeleteKirk used to have lots of problems with bad nosebleeds. I think I have taken him to the ER 3-4 times with blood pouring out of his nose. He had one of those things put in his nose once also. He also was given a clamp and had a blood vessel cauterized. You know what finally stopped his issues was an ENT told him to sniff KY jelly up in his nose a couple of times a day. That keeps his nose from drying out which was apparently causing the nosebleeds.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad for you that is over with. I hope, for your sake, that you won't have these crazy nosebleeds in any future pregnancies.
