Logan's birthday was Saturday, June 15th, and since we don't have any family very close, we decided to invite a few families from the ward to celebrate. They all had at least one child under the age of 3 and they were the ones I would say we are the closest with. On the invitation I said they didn't have to bring a gift, but they all ended up bringing something. Some of them were used, but that was totally fine by us. All of the gifts that we got for Logan were used (from Once Upon a Child). Since our house is small, the kids spent most of the time outside. I bought some bubbles so the first ones here were playing with those while waiting for everyone else. We have a patio and a sliding glass door so we just had the screen closed and the kids played and ate outside except when they watched Logan open presents and smash his cake.
We did presents first because it started at 11 so I didn't think people would be ready for lunch right away. Logan actually seemed to do worse at opening gifts this time than at Christmas time! I think he was just overwhelmed by it all. And I felt like we had to keep it moving so people wouldn't get bored, so we would take things out of his hand before he was ready so he could move on to the next gift. He wasn't happy about that! But after everyone left, he had a blast playing with all his new toys! He tried out each one and didn't want to go to bed for his nap! Or for bedtime.

From the Frys. They also gave him one of those toys that you pound one thing with a
hammer and another thing pops up. He loves that! |

He also got another walking toy from the Maas's and a dragging toy from us. We also got him some more books and a wooden puzzle. Unfortunately, the gift my mom got is something Logan already has! I felt bad about that because my mom was really excited about it. So we will be giving that back to her to give to another grandchild and she mailed us some money. We'll be shopping this weekend for something.

Gina's gift came later and he seemed more excited about it. It was clothes and a bunch of
cloth books that are interactive. There was also a Noah's Ark that he really enjoys playing with. |
I did a sports theme and kept it simple (and cheap!) The decorations were balloons and a lot of our sporting equipment. Plus I stole an idea from my sister, Tiffany, to have a string of pictures of every month of Logan's life. She made it really cute by backing all the pictures with cute paper, but I just hung them up in order with bobby pins. Getto I know, but easy. I made a football field out of a green table cloth using tape. That actually took longer than I expected it to. I did do cute favors (idea also from my sister) by using old baby food jars and putting M&Ms in them. The "label" said, "Much & Many thanks for coming!" I also made cupcakes and decorated them like baseballs and basketballs and made his smash cake (more on that later). I did the most work on the food which was sandwich rolls and 3 different salads.

| I don't have all the food out yet since we were doing presents first. |

The last thing we did was the smash cake. I expected him to get really into it because he often is smashing his food and laughing at it. But I've never put something so big on his tray and there were a lot of people watching. He mostly just stared at it. I finally broke off a piece and gave it to him, so he ate that piece, but then he was basically done. Pretty funny!

I blew out the candle just before he touched the flame! He didn't understand the blowing
part even though we had been practicing blowing |
 |
| Just staring at it, not sure what to do with something so big |
 |
| I broke off a piece so he's finally trying it. He was making lots of "mmm" sounds |
 |
| Yummy! |
Right after that, everyone went home. It seemed like it lasted the perfect amount of time (an hour and a half). The younger ones were getting tired and ready to go and everyone seemed to have a good time.
What a cute theme! I like what you did with the table and the cupcakes! Really cute!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I'm totally copying that for Easton! Happy birthday, Logan!
