| Deer in our backyard in Canton. We often see them on top of that green, but this one was close! Sorry, the screen is in the way, but I knew if I opened the door, it would scare the deer away! |
I also just want to journal a bit about the craziness of the move. So it might be a little long and boring, just to warn! Everything turned out fine, but there definitely were some bumps along the way. First of all, the U-Pack cubes didn't come until the last hour possible for them to come, which had us worried, and then the next day they didn't pick them up until the last hour possible.
Then we had to ship our Honda because we didn't sell it (which we weren't too upset about), but it turned out they said they couldn't come and get it until the day after we left so we asked our friends, the Duers, if they could be there to give the guy the key, etc and they said that was fine. Well, then the guy calls us and says he can't come until the day after that, so I let Angelique know and she was ok with that. Then the guy calls them and says he can't come until late or maybe the next day! And the reason? The driver witnessed a shooting and had to stay to explain what he saw! I mean, what kind of luck is that? After I heard that, I wasn't upset at him anymore, poor guy. Well, anyway, the Duers were leaving for PA so they couldn't do it on Friday. So I had to find a backup friend, which I did. Then it turned out the guy said he could come and pick it up that night if they left the key on the car so he wouldn't have to bother them. So he finally gets there around 1 am and I guess he couldn't get the truck onto our street so he did end up waking them up and they had to drive our car down to where he was. I felt so bad that they went through all of that for us! I had given them a gift card, but we decided to send them another one because it really was a lot of trouble. Anyway, we finally got that all taken care of and the car did eventually get delivered safe and sound.
On our drive out to Utah, we had reservations at an Econolodge and we got all checked in, got Logan to bed, and then snuck back into the room (because we were waiting in the hallway while Logan was falling asleep) and Logan wakes up when we were sneaking in so we ducked behind the bed. While we were waiting for him to go back to sleep, the fire alarm goes off! We were a little confused about what to do so I looked at the door and the front desk guy was running down the hallway on the phone so I figured it was probably real. After some discussion, we grabbed our coats and Logan and his blanket and went out to our car (because it was too cold to wait outside). Pretty soon, firetrucks were coming and Logan was just loving all the activity and that he was out of bed! We did see some smoke coming out towards the top on one side of the building but no flames. After some time, they told us we could go in to get our stuff but that we would have to head to the Super 8 down the street. So we had to pack up our car once again (which was a feat in itself with everything we had to take) and unpacked and got set up and put Logan to bed again. Quite an adventure! Luckily our next night was uneventful; however our 3rd driving day we were worried about the weather and contemplated whether we would need to stop and spend another night. But we pressed on and Utah actually had the worst weather, but it wasn't awful and we had new brakes on our car as well as snow tires and we made it safely! It was an adventure!
