Grandma & Grandpa Summers Came!

Grandma and Grandpa Summers got to come to our house at the end of September! We were really excited to have them come and we did the same thing to our basement that we did when the Hancocks came (used a heavy duty spider spray the Saturday before), then I cleaned out the cobwebs and swept the floor (it was easier this time since it hadn't been as long!) and they slept down there on our blow up mattress. The first day they arrived, we just chilled at our house and Nate didn't get done with school until a bit later anyway. On the rest of the days, he just skipped class and was able to do all his work from home. So that was nice.

A large clock in the Swiss Village that has little wooden dancers that come out on the hour (and maybe the 1/2 hour?)
On Thursday, we decided to check out the Swiss Village that is South of us, basically in Amish Country. I guess some of the Amish are of Swiss descent. We had never been and thought it would be fun to check out a different part of Amish Country.  It turned out that there wasn't as much there as is in the Amish part that we usually go to. My favorite thing was probably just the look of the buildings. They definitely had a Swiss Alps flair. There was also a museum about the Swiss, a religious store, an antiques store, a girly store (with dolls, quilts, jewelry, fairies, etc) and a food store where they had a few samples of things. We both ended up getting a few things there. They had this amazing cream cheese dip with chocolate chips and pretzel graham crackers.
I'm too lazy to flip this and the picture below. From the Museum: a Barber's chair

I just thought this was funny. It's a train hotel!
On Friday, we were going to go to a butterfly house that I've been wanting to take Logan to, but when we go there, it was closed for the season. I did look online before we left and it did say it would close sometime in September but it didn't say that it was already closed. They did have some Turtles out and a play area made out of logs. So Logan played on that and then we decided to head back to Canton, grab some amazing Swensons burgers, and went to a park for a little picnic and for Logan to play. He learned how to say "quack quack" when we were there because there are so many ducks! He had a blast!

That evening, Steve cut Logan and Nate's hair. It was the first major haircut that Logan has had. In the past, I have just cut around his ears and his neck, but he cut the top. I admit that I was a little worried that he would lose his curl, but he still has it! And it made him look so much older!

On Saturday, we went back to Wagon Trails (the Safari place we had been to before we were parents where you can feed & pet some animals). Logan was in heaven! Probably his favorite was a baby camel that wasn't a part of the Safari. They have a little petting zoo section while you wait for your turn on the wagon. But he would pet the camel and got really excited about it. It was funny to think that the camel was so much younger than Logan yet it was so much bigger! Logan did get scared when a parrot squawked really loud. But he got over it and certainly enjoyed the whole trip. He wasn't even afraid of these giant animals with huge tongues! He wouldn't touch them, but he was entranced just looking at them. Nate and I took turns holding Logan or feeding the animals. They had more zebras this time so we were a lot closer to them. But since zebras can be really mean, we could only feed them by putting the feed under our benches and we were warned to step back and not go anywhere near their heads. There was also a brand new calf that had been born that day that got stuck in a cattle guard. We had to wait while a guy came and got it out. The camels were as crazy as ever, stealing people's buckets; and there was also Texas Longhorns, llamas, antelope, elk, pot bellied bigs, miniature horses, donkeys, ostriches, an emu (it never came close to us), water buffalo, bison, and probably more that I can't think of. After the safari, we went to the apple toss and launched some apples over the fence to the animals waiting there. Then we went back to the store where Grandma and Grandpa spoiled Logan with a stuffed animal. Then we went home so Logan could have some sort of nap.

On Sunday, we went to Kirtland. We did the Historic Kirtland tour (done by our church). It was nice because it was just us in our group so I didn't feel so bad when Logan would get antsy and disrupt. Nate and I actually went on the whole tour (except the movie). It's always nice to go and feel the spirit there and remember how much the early saints sacrificed for the church. We also went to the grounds of the temple. It was nice to just walk around and enjoy the beauty of it.

Grandma and Grandpa took Logan on lots of walks! He was loving it! Mommy and Daddy got lots of grading done:)
On Monday morning, they went back to the Kreischers. We were sad to see them go but are so happy that we will soon be with them all the time! And that we will be near my family! Logan will finally really get to know his grandparents and cousins! We can't wait to go home!
Look at that wild mane! Love that boy!
