Logan had been asking for cat for months. Maybe even a year. Nate and I both grew up with cats and we like them so we decided to take the plunge and get a cat for Logan's birthday. We actually got him about a couple of weeks after his birthday because we wanted to be sure to not have to go anywhere over night with a brand new kitty. So Logan got a kitty litter box, food and water bowls, and a toy for the cat on his actual birthday and a promise that we would get one soon. We also wanted a young cat so it would be with us for a long time. Kylie was also really afraid of animals so we thought this might help.

So on the appointed day, we dropped Kylie off at the Cederlofs and picked up one of their cat carriers and head out to the animal shelter. There were some darling kittens in the front desk area but they had worms and they were really little. So they directed us to where the cat room was. We had to walk through the large dog area to get to the cat room and those big dogs were loud and a bit scary. I was glad we didn't bring Kylie because she would have freaked out. Logan was holding onto my hand very tightly.
Once we got in the cat room and closed the door, we relaxed. There were a lot of cats and I think they really needed people to adopt them because it was pretty crowded. They had a bulletin board with pictures of the cats and some information on them so I started looking at that and looking for the ones that were 2 years old and younger. I would walk up to one, try to pet it, and if it let me do that, then I would try to carry it. Some stroke out at me even if I just got close to them so they were scratched off the list. As I was doing this, and Logan was following me and trying to pet some too, there was a certain big white cat that also kept following us and rubbing against us. I was just ignoring him because he wasn't one of the little ones but Logan started petting him and was like, "what about this one?" So I finally took a look at him, pet him, held him and he was really sweet. And he let Logan pet him. I looked at the bulletin board for him. It said his name was Charlie, he was 4 years old, an indoor cat, and had been in a family that had kids ranging from baby to 8 years old. I asked Logan if he liked the cat and if he was okay with it being older already. Logan was really excited so we went back to tell the front desk that we had decided on one.
As we were doing the paperwork, the lady told us Charlie's background. He had been with a family with 4 kids with one on the way. The mom just felt like she couldn't handle having a cat anymore but the dad really didn't want to give it away. I guess the dad dropped the cat off and was noticeably sad about it. As the lady was telling me the story, I actually started getting teary and just knew that Charlie was the cat for us and we for him. We could give him a loving home with kids just like where he came from. And he really has been great! He is so patient with the kids and loves to be pet. His only downfalls are that he likes to scratch the carpet and he meows at the door a lot to go outside (even though he's supposed to be an indoor cat). But we have all fallen in love with him and feel like he is a perfect addition to our family!
