2 Months!

Trying to get pictures of him smiling

My baby is 2 months old now and is getting really fun. Logan smiles at us all the time. Especially in the morning. He seems to be happiest in the morning. He is still a little guy. But he now wears newborn clothes along with 0-3 months.
His stats on Aug 16th:
Weight: 11 lbs 4 oz, 25th percentile (much more normal weight gain)
Height: 22 in., 25th percentile
The didn't tell me his head circumference, but it is in the 85th percentile.
So apparently he has a large head compared to his body. But he has to house a large, smart brain, right?

Logan is really good at getting his fist in his mouth now. He tries to suck on the whole thing. He's also already becoming a momma's boy. I'm not sure what to do about this. Maybe we do need to start going out sometimes and getting a babysitter for him so he can get used to other people. We probably do spoil him. If he's not sleeping, he's usually either being held by me or Nate. He used to stay in the swing for awhile, but he doesn't do that very often any more. But from what I hear, you can't spoil a newborn. My only question is when is he not a newborn anymore? However, he is starting to like to sit on the couch by himself so we are doing that more and more. He just gets bored after awhile.
Don't look at me. Not the best picture, but he's darling! We were
trying to get a picture of  him with his fist in his mouth.
He started showing some interest in the TV during the weeks that we were watching the Olympics, so we decided to try Baby Einsteins and he watched most of it while I was cleaning before he got bored and started making his complaining noises. He was really loving it at first. His arms and legs were flying and he would randomly make a cute noise and smile. He also really likes sports and House Hunters.
Watching Baby Einsteins and loving it
Logan still sleeps pretty well at night. We try to get him in bed around 8:30 or 9:30. He usually wakes up in the 2:30-3:30 range and then in the 5-6 range and then is up at 7 or 8. However, during the day, he struggles taking long naps. The morning nap is usually good. But after that, he'll have lots of short naps. Sometimes we will try a new technique (like sleeping on his belly) and think that it works because he will take a really long nap, but the next time we do it (and sequential times) it won't work so well. Basically, we can't figure him out. But oh well. All we can do is keep trying to put him down when he seems tired and see how long he will sleep. Whether it's 5 minutes or 1 hour, it does seem to help.
He zonked out on Nate, so he just set him down on the couch. He always
sleeps with his arms up unless we can miraculously get him swaddled good enough.
He has started playing with toys a little bit. We will hold it in front of his face and he will try to grab it, or just look at it, and get really excited. He sometimes even plays with it when he is sitting on the couch by himself and we put it in his lap. But most of the time, he doesn't seem to notice it is there.
Playing with his favorite toy! (there is a small mirror on the side that he's looking at)
Logan makes a lot more noises now. It's not just complaining noises anymore, but he will squeal with delight when we smile at him. He also coos. Here is video of him cooing. He only did it at the beginning.

He is still his stubborn self. He will get what he wants exactly how he wants it and he will cry until we figure that out.

Tried to get a family picture using the timed setting because of how cute Logan & Daddy looked
See how they match?
One with mom too, just so I don't feel left out

  1. So cute! Is he loosing his hair or going lighter? We need to Skype so we can see him better!

  2. Gosh, he's so big now! And yeah, he looks like he's going blonde! It'll probably darken up later though. He's super cute!

  3. It's like you've described my baby! By the way, I'm Cindy's sister in law/Nate's sister. I hope you remember me! Anyway, you've totally described our baby too. Preston was born on June 21st, so he's right close to yours. He wants to be held all the time, gets tired of his swing after a few minutes, takes a good morning nap, etc. He's totally smiley, too, just like yours. We should get them together to play...if they didn't live hundreds of miles apart. Haha!

  4. Oh, and tummy sleeping is the only way he will sleep because with any other way he wakes himself up with his cute little movements. Every day is different but exciting, huh?

  6. I love how those overalls are just a bit too big...they almost hide his little/big noggin! But it's a cute outfit!

Although the days are long, the years fly by. It's okay that he's not in a regular schedule or routine yet. At least his nights are becoming more predictable. That's the best! Dependable sleep for you! 2 months is still really little. Even if you're aching for routine and consistency, he'll just keep doing what he needs to do. Most of my babies finally settled into a regular daytime routine by about 4-6 months (for my kids, they would settle into a 3 nap routine for a few months..the first two naps were usually longer naps of about 1-2 hours and the 3rd was usually a short one about 30-45 minutes right before dinnertime. Perfect! Then they would drop down to two naps around 9-12 months). I know that seems like forever from now, but it comes. And then just when you feel like you've got a routine (oh, wow...he's been doing this for about a week now!), they start teething or they get sick or you go on vacation and the routine gets messed up anyway for a few days! Rob often asks me why it's so hard for me to come up with an exercise routine for myself...it's because I have to be flexible because someone else is always depending on me for something! And just when I think we are getting a routine down, something happens to shake it up. But consistency does pay off...so when we do get it shaken up, it's easy to get back on track when things get back to normal. I hope that helps! You're doing great! Just learn what you can wherever you can (books, internet, other moms), seek advice from anyone you trust, pray, and then trust your inspiration and act on that.

With my kids, I also found that few of the baby-distracting toys/gadgets/stuff would keep them occupied very long...15 minutes is unusually long for my babies. I've never understood how someone's baby could sit in a swing/play under a mat with dangly toys/sit in an exersaucer for like an hour. Me (and their siblings) are usually their favorite distractions. But it's more fun to have a happy baby than have everything checked off on that ToDo list anyway! I love those little smiles!
